I began to feel underwhelmed at work and reluctant to get out of bed in the morning. I could not place a finger on what was wrong, so I tried to ignore it. That didn’t work. This gloom disposition stood its ground, upsetting my life’s flow and slowly chipping away at my reputation, self-esteem, and health. I lost focus, many friends, and my appetite. I just had this feeling that I was doing something wrong; that I was living someone else’s life.
I decided to take control of my own destiny!
I was stuck and felt like I was drowning and desperately needed to come up for air, but I didn’t have the slightest idea what the problem was or how to go about my resuscitation. I had been down before but I couldn’t remember how to bounce back!
I was completely burnt out and I couldn’t see it. I was just going thru the motions. I had lost a taste for life, or at least life the way I was living it. But what was the problem? Was it the life or was it me? I began to remember myself the way I used to be in my earlier days: filled with joy and laughter, free from the pressure of societal conformity and talking with passion about things I wanted to do with my life, places I wanted to go, people I wanted to see.
Finally, I found the problem!
My limiting beliefs!
I was cruising on the wrong freeway and needed to get off it immediately. I was the per-verbal Hamster in the Wheel. My heart warmed with relief as I thought of the endless possibilities of how my life could pan out from this moment forward. But first I needed to prepare myself mentally and emotionally to take drastic measures to redirect my life.
Your life begins at purpose!
There is really only one person who can decide how your life will pan out: YOU! You do not need to strive to be what someone else wants you to be. Every other person’s opinion, no matter how well intended, is secondary to what you know about yourself. And there isn’t a single person who knows you better than yourself – now, is there?
There are TWO major steps you MUST take before you can begin your journey to self-discovery and purposeful living.
- The first step is discovering and accepting the fact that something is not quite right with you.
- The next is taking the first step towards repairing the damage.
This move can be scary sometimes and it should be. If your situation is as far gone as mine was, then you are about to turn your entire life upside down and things will never be the same again. Do it anyway. Don’t bother yourself about making it perfect. It can be as clumsy and shaky as Jell-O, but you did take the step and that is all that matters.

- Healthy recipes and nuggets for healthy feeding and lifestyle habits
